Who we are

The Dog Health Fund is dedicated to helping low-mid income dog parents facing critical (non-emergency) & unaffordable preventative veterinary care by providing financial assistance, resources and community support.

Our goal is to reduce dog suffering, prevent unnecessary surrenders or euthanasia caused by inability to pay and strengthen the human–animal bond within our community.

At this time, the financial assistance portion of the organization will be accessible only to residents of Hudson County, NJ.

In Loving Memory of Marta Polanco-Plata

The Dog Health Fund was founded in loving memory of Marta Polanco‑Plata, a devoted mother and wife who died at the age of 63 from complications of COVID‑19.

Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Marta was a lifelong animal lover who cared for many cats and dogs throughout her life.

Her favorite breed was the Yorkshire Terrier — a bond she shared with her beloved Benji, who remains a cherished, healthy member of the family.

The Fund honors Marta’s compassion by supporting the health and wellbeing of dogs everywhere.
